Plan B

Life offers us neither problems nor challenges, only opportunities.

This is a principle I’m learning to embrace through a coaching program I’m enrolled in.  It’s a high-energy way to view any situation, and it makes sense to me.  “To call something a 'problem' is to create a disempowering judgment,” the teacher in my new program explains.  "There are no problems, only opportunities for increasing potential on this amazing journey,” she tells the class (Ooh, journey, that’s my word.  They are talking my language.  Do they know about The Human Journey????).

So, here I am, seven hours in to a 30-hour Friday – Sunday training session, digesting a new principle and applying it my everyday life.  (“I want to go run, but it’s snowing outside.  Looks like an opportunity for an indoor bike ride.” or “COVID is still rampant, and we are desperate to get out of Chicago.  Road trip!!!!!"  Ooh, this is easy...).

Just as I was checking another mastered principle off the list, we took a break, and I decided to check my email.  I found a few work emails, some junk mail, and an email from an attorney informing me that my business name, The Human Journey, and my website, thehumanj.com, are in violation of a registered trademark.  Oh, sh*t!!!

After further research, it hits me like a ton of bricks: he’s right.  There is another website out there with a similar name and URL, with a similar business, and this person has a trademark.  I am the type of guy who plays by the rules.  It’s clear I am in the wrong, and I will have to lose The Human Journey.

Life offers us neither problems nor challenges, only opportunities.

I didn’t panic.  I wasn’t even distraught.  I was...balanced.  Levelheaded.  It’s okay.  It’s better than okay.  Maybe this is...an...opportunity.

What would that mean if this really is an opportunity?

It would mean that this was meant to be.  Part of MY human journey, apparently, is that I’m supposed to lose THE Human Journey.  That I’m supposed to learn from this experience, to grow from it and apply it to my own learning, and to that of my clients.  I can do that!  That’s what I’m doing now by sharing it with my readers.

Before I landed on The Human Journey, I bought andrewmaycoaching.com.  That URL has sat in the bench, collecting dust, simply because I bought it for a year and then cast it aside in favor of The Human Journey.  Well, it’s just been called into the game!

Therefore my new business name, Andrew May Coaching.  My new URL: andrewmaycoaching.com.

Plan B.

How can you apply the principle that life offers us neither problems nor challenges, only opportunities, into your outlook?  What hasn’t gone the way you expected?  I’d love to hear your story or help you see the opportunity that an unexpected turn of events has presented in your life.  Give me a shout and let’s discuss.
